They were the civilian version of the police package 9c1. Only differences, besides cosmetic stuff, were lower suspension and bigger wheels on the Impala. The last year of these(96) though had a floor shifter instead of on the column.

Nothing SS specific really, maybe a few slight tweaks, but it was still an LT-1. Basically it was a 9c1 that looked better.

You'd just have a black caprice with an exhaust then. Which, is different than having a black crown vic with mufflers since the caprice with the LT1 has the same motor as the impala, but....

Most caprices in this day and age are ragged out ghetto cruiser 9c1's. It'd be easier to find a clean SS and you'd have a real SS.

Yeah, but is it worth 4x the price? a 9c1 in decent condition, pre-donk, is what, $2500? And pretty much identical to the SS mechanically.

Regular cappys didn't come with the lt1 stock. They had a 4.3. 9C1's (police package) and impalas where the only B-bodies that had an lt1 stock. The 4.3 was junk and looked just like the lt1. The lt1 was a great engine. Head and shoulders better than the 4.3. The SS will hold it value really well. Its virtually a collector car. The regular cappy not so much. I owned an SS for almost 10 years. Hit me up if you have questions

I don't know if you'll find a clean LT1 car that cheap. A 305 or 4.3 car maybe. I don't keep up with B body resale though aside from knowing what the SS's are worth since thats the competition so to speak
